I collected my tickets yesterday afternoon for the Stormers opening game of the new Super 15 season, and I instantly felt the excitement, as well as major anticipation, surge through my body the moment the lady behind the counter at Shoprite-Checkers handed me the envelope with the tickets. For us Stormer & WP fans the 2011 rugby season starts tomorrow...!
The best part of visiting Newlands on a Saturday like this is the spirit you will be part of before and after the match. The reaction and enthusiasm from people after the match all depends on what their favourite team does on the day, but there are those who still party no matter what happened at the Rugby match. The 'braai's' will be out early morning and the cold ones will be flowing well into Saturday night...
Lots are being uttered regarding the inclusion of Van Aswegen at flyhalf to start the game for the Stormers, and Peter Grant sitting on the bench, but I feel Van Aswegen proved enough to warrant another go in the pivotal no. 10 jersey. I am sure Grant will get a run on the field later in the second half. He also has a big role to play in the rest of an extended Super Rugby season, during which all positions in all 15 teams will be put to the test this year especially.
Coach Mitchell of The Lions has stuck with his group of players who outplayed the Bulls in the second half last week-end. This is the right choice for a team busy building and trying to establish themselves in the top-half of the Super 15 points table.
