According to the Cricinfo website, a senior BCCI official confirmed that Kirsten has expressed to the board his desire to not extend his coaching contract with India because of family commitments. In all likelihood, the World Cup will now be his last assignment with India.
"It is a topic that has been discussed at length for a long time. I can confirm that he will not continue his coaching assignment with India after the World Cup," the official said.
Sad news for India, but hopefully it is very good news for South Africa. The Proteas are already looking for their next coach after Corrie van Zyl made it clear he will not be continuing with the coaching job after the coming Cricket World Cup.
I am sure that Gary Kirsten has the inside lane to become South Africa's next coach, especially after his done tremendously well with India over the last few seasons.
There are all kinds of rumors going around South Africa regarding who the next coach should be, who is best suited for the job, etc., but with the experiences Kirsten's coaching record shows at the moment, compared to other candidates, who will dare argue that his the man for the job after the World Cup?
