Liverpool fan Shaun McCormack changed his name to Fernando Torres as a Christmas present to himself - a month before the striker jumped ship to Chelsea.
At the time the internet trader said: "It's a dream come true. I know he isn't having the greatest of seasons but, for me, he's the best striker on the planet.
"I did think about changing my name to Steven Gerrard, but I wanted something a little more flamboyant."
He said his wife Clare and kids found it hilarious, adding: "The only person who hasn't seen the funny side is my mother-in-law. It was worth doing just to see her reaction."
Local newspaper, The Scunthorpe Telegraph, now reports that Torres' move to Stamford Bridge has left the fan in a dilemma.
He is quoted as saying: "The transfer news has gutted me.
"I just love the name Fernando but I don't know what to do now. "
