CYCLING: Alberto Contador becomes newest banned champion...

The very reason why myself and I am sure many other followers of International Cycling stopped watching the sport, was given another blow by the one year ban handed to Spanish 2010 Tour de France winner, Alberto Contador.

He becomes just another champion cyclist to receive a ban for failing a drug test. Will this ever end?

I, for one, want to believe that Contador and all the others who tested positive in the past were not guilty, but up till now there has been too many positive tests. We still have the cloud hanging over legend Lance Armstrong's head as well? Where do we go from here in the cycling world?

28 Year old Contador released a statement through his spokesperson.

"Alberto Contador has received today(Wednesday) a notification of one year ban proposal by the Competition Committee of the Spanish Federation," said the spokesperson.

"Therefore, together with Bjarne Riis (director of his team Saxo Bank), a Press Conference will be held on Friday, January 28, at 16:00, at the Hotel Son Net in Palma de Mallorca, to express their opinion about this case."

The rider has 10 days to appeal, but faces becoming only the second Tour de France champion to be stripped of his title.
American Floyd Landis was shorn of his crown in 2006.
