CRICKET: Albie Morkel remains a standby player for WC...

According to Corrie van Zyl, coach of the Proteas cricket team, Albie Morkel remains a standby player for the upcoming Cricket World Cup starting in less than a month from now.

Albie was brought into the current Protea squad for the one-day series against India as a backup all rounder, but was released from the squad to play for the Titans in the local competition. This, Corrie van Zyl says, will give Albie much needed match practice.

Personally, I think it is somewhat of a disgrace that a gifted all rounder like Albie was never really part of the Proteas WC plans. It is clear, like it is usually the case when South Africa discards talented sportsmen, that other countries shake their heads in disbelief. In Albie's case it has been the Indian team and especially captain Dhoni, who played IPL T20 with Albie, that has made no secret of the fact that India would just love to have a talented all rounder like Morkel in their team.

What is up with our selectors then I ask myself? Any comments out there? Please share your thoughts regarding Albie's admission?
