What a remarkable person - cricketing talent - and sports 'Icon'. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is the "God of Cricket" - in India at least, but many will agree that is the case in other parts of the world as well.
When Tendulkar made his test debut during November of 1989, he was only 16 years and 205 days old. He is the third youngest player to make his test debut ever. Sachin played his first test match against Pakistan and was bowled out for 15 by another test debutant, the great Waqar Younis.
His maiden test century came almost a year later, on August 14, 1990, when India played England at Old Trafford. It was his ninth test match. He made an unbeaten 119 in the second innings of that game, which was a significant contribution, as it helped India to a well-deserved draw.
Surprisingly, his mother has never watched a single game of cricket that her son played in, but she was present during his 200th Test match, which is to be his last for his country, India. He is currently playing against the West Indies in his home town of Mumbai, where he was caught in the slips by Sammy for 74, which may be his final test innings ever!
This probably sums up the little Indian cricketing legend the best:
"I have played with him long enough to understand his approach but I am amazed at the man’s zeal. He wants to be perfect always. His humility is amazing. I have seen Sachin carry drinks for the junior most, much to the embarrassment of the youngster. His discipline is infectious. For Mumbai nets, he comes in the Mumbai training gear. He would never don an India cap or T-shirt for a Mumbai match. He will also not allow anyone to carry his cricket coffin.” - Pravin Amre (Sachin Tendulkar’s coach at Mumbai)

Hey David, I guess his 248* was against Bangladesh and not against Australia. He scored 241* against Australia in Sydney.
Hi there Srikrishna,
Thank you very much for your comment and pointing out the mistake. I checked with another source and you are correct, Tendulkar's highest score of 248* was indeed against Bangladesh. Please visit here regularly and leave your comments - I appreciate them and I am a HUGE cricket supporter.
I am looking forward to India touring South Africa soon, but it is just sad that the tour was shortened because of all kinds of "cricket politics"!
Here are Tendulkar's five highest test scores:
1. 248* VS Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004:
2. 241* VS Australia at Sydney in 2004:
3. 217 VS New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 1999:
5. 203 VS Sri Lanka at Colombo in 2010:
I'd definitely keep visiting here often. I'm an avid Cricket fan myself.. I consider myself more of a 'statistician' coz I'm good with numbers somehow...
There are a few more career stats of SRT I saw, were a mis, like his total runs in ODI's.. He has scored 18426 runs I guess. So you need anything about SRT (as a source), you can even email me :D (not that there aren't any reliable sources available). I'm just saying :p
I have just gone through a few posts and I really love your sport blogging style. Will check out every post in detail sometime.
PS: even I'm looking forward to the SA tour. Its a sad truth that its shortened due to politics! I think it will be 1-1 in tests and 2-1 in favour of India in ODI's and if there's a T20, it'll be SA.
That is great to hear! You are welcome to browse the site any time. I am planning some better and hopefully more exciting things in the future.
My prediction for the India tour is slightly different :):
1 SA - 0 India (Tests)
India should win the ODI's
SA to win T20
Sports Greetings!
Your prediction is quite possible. But being an Indian cricket fan, I was being optimistic about at least 1 test win there in SA. Haha!
We lost the 1st ODI big time! Thank God I am sitting in the US right now! Would have gone crazy, if I would have got to watch the match on TV! I am expecting a major thrashing in all the 3 formats of the game against SA!
I don't know when it comes to overseas (specifically SA), we falter way too much!
India was totally outplayed at the Wanderers, sorry to say. :) Your bowlers were bowling badly to start off with and our new young talent, Quinton de Kock, and Amla made them pay up-front!
Then, Steyn bowled unplayable balls in his spell and the Indian batsmen looked rather ordinary. But, I expect them to bounce back tomorrow in Durban, where there is HUGE support for Indian cricket. :)
Expect a better performance from India...
